Jamshedpur, Oct 5: In a commendable initiative aimed at reuniting residents with their lost or stolen mobile phones, a program was organised at the police station conference hall of Bistupur today.

The event, spearheaded by Jamshedpur SSP Kaushal Kishore, witnessed the distribution of a total of 285 mobile phones among the public as part of the sixth phase of this mobile distribution drive.

The distribution included 49 mobile phones belonging to residents from rural areas, which were handed out in their respective locations. In total, 334 mobile phones were distributed on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to reunite citizens with their lost devices.

This initiative follows five previous rounds of mobile distribution programs, wherein a remarkable 1149 individuals were successfully reunited with their missing mobile phones. The program addresses a growing concern, with a staggering 4108 reported cases of lost or stolen mobile phones in the region.

The SSP emphasized the pivotal role of the technical team in restoring lost mobile phones to their rightful owners. Previously, cases were put on hold after filing an FIR, but the evolving approach ensures a more proactive resolution of such cases. The SSP also highlighted the use of a WhatsApp number for reporting lost mobile phones, providing citizens with a convenient avenue to trace their missing devices without the need to visit the police station.

In response to a surge in complaints filed at various police stations within the district regarding stolen or lost mobile phones, law enforcement has issued a stern warning to the public against purchasing cell phones without proper documentation. The caution comes as part of a concerted effort by the police to tackle the rising issue of unauthorized mobile phone transactions.

To address the complaints, a specialized team was swiftly assembled by the police, dedicated to investigating the reported cases. This team, in collaboration with the cybercrime unit, embarked on a comprehensive mission to trace and recover lost and stolen mobile phones. The joint efforts of these units resulted in the successful seizure of over 500 mobile phones from individuals who were unable to provide the relevant documents verifying their ownership.

The warnings to the public emphasize the potential risks associated with acquiring mobile phones without proper documentation, underlining the connection between such transactions and the reported cases of stolen or lost devices. The police urged citizens to exercise caution and conduct due diligence when purchasing mobile phones to avoid inadvertently becoming involved in the illicit trade of stolen or unauthorized devices.

This proactive approach by the police not only addresses the immediate concerns raised by the community but also sends a strong message against the illegal trade of mobile phones. The collaboration between the specialized team and the cybercrime unit showcases the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of mobile phone transactions within the district.
