Jamshedpur: Consumers in Jamshedpur and across Jharkhand have been hit by another increase in the cost of essential household fuel, with public sector oil marketing companies raising the price of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹29. The revised rates came into effect immediately, further straining household budgets already affected by rising inflation.
Following the latest revision, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Jamshedpur has increased from ₹952.50 to ₹981.50.
Second LPG Price Hike in Three Months
The latest increase marks the second hike in domestic LPG prices within the last three months. Earlier, on March 7, 2026, oil companies had raised the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders by ₹60.
The consecutive increases have sparked concern among consumers, particularly middle-class and low-income families, who are already dealing with rising costs of daily necessities.
Commercial Cylinder Prices Remain Unchanged
While domestic consumers face higher costs, commercial LPG users have received some relief. Oil companies have not revised the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder, which continues to be available at ₹3,113.50 in Jamshedpur.
The price of the smaller 5 kg domestic LPG cylinder has been fixed at ₹429 under the revised rate structure.
Oil Companies Cite Rising Global Energy Costs
According to oil marketing companies, the latest revision has been necessitated by increasing international energy prices and losses incurred on domestic LPG sales.
Officials have stated that the hike is intended to partially offset mounting financial pressures and does not fully compensate for the losses being borne by the companies.
LPG Becomes Costlier After Fuel Price Increases
The cooking gas price hike comes on the heels of recent increases in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices. Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have reportedly risen by around ₹7.50 per litre, while CNG prices have increased by approximately ₹6 per kilogram.
Economists and market observers believe the cumulative impact of rising fuel costs could eventually lead to higher transportation expenses and an increase in the prices of various essential commodities.
Middle-Class Families Feel the Pinch
The latest increase is expected to have the greatest impact on middle-class and economically weaker households, many of whom are already struggling to manage monthly expenses amid persistent inflation.
Consumers have expressed concern that the rising cost of cooking gas will make household budgeting even more difficult, especially when combined with increases in the prices of food items, transportation, and other essential services.
With the revised rates now in force, consumers in Jamshedpur and other parts of Jharkhand will have to pay ₹981.50 for a standard 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, adding another burden to household expenditures.
