2912 ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’ beneficiaries under scanner in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In a decisive move to curb irregularities in welfare schemes, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Ananya Mittal, has ordered an immediate investigation into suspected fraudulent beneficiaries under the ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’. The order follows alarming findings in a preliminary review that revealed multiple beneficiaries linked to single bank account numbers, a clear violation of scheme guidelines.

A staggering 2,912 beneficiaries have been identified with potential duplications or suspicious links. This includes alarming figures from several zones and blocks: 390 in Jamshedpur Zone, 388 in Golmuri-cum-Jugsalai, 300 in Mango Zone, 573 in Potka, and 271 in Ghatshila, among others.

The Deputy Commissioner has issued a strict directive to all Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Zonal Officers to verify the lists within their respective jurisdictions and submit a comprehensive report within three working days.

“Such irregularities will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Those found guilty will face action, including recovery of disbursed funds and removal from the beneficiary list. Departmental proceedings will be initiated against any official or staff found complicit,” warned DC Mittal.

The ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’, a flagship scheme aimed at the economic empowerment of eligible women, is meant to support the underprivileged. Any misuse or manipulation of the scheme not only undermines its objectives but also deprives rightful beneficiaries of essential support.

The district administration has also urged the public to report any known cases of misuse or fraud related to the scheme. Citizens can approach the nearest administrative office or contact the helpline to share credible information.

This probe is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability in the implementation of the welfare scheme and ensure that the benefits reach the genuinely deserving.
