Jamshedpur: Railway authorities launched an anti-encroachment drive near Badabambo railway station on Thursday and removed several shops situated on railway land.
Sources said the Railways had issued notices to the encroachers 10 days ago regarding the anti-encroachment drive. A total of 28 shops were demolished during the drive. Senior railway officials accompanied by Government Rail Police and district police officers supervised the anti-encroachment drive.
According to local traders, the anti-encroachment drive was aimed at removing the weekly market held on the Railway land. The district administration should rehabilitate the traders by providing them alternative accommodation near Badabambo Chowk.
On coming to know about the anti-encroachment drive, local politicians reached Badabambo weekly market and assured the displaced traders of early rehabilitation by holding talks with the district administration officials.
