25th Sub-Junior State Basketball Championship concludes: Jharkhand team for nationals announced

Jamshedpur, May 31: The 25th Sub-Junior Jharkhand State Basketball Championship 2025 for Boys and Girls concluded with a spirited closing ceremony at Govind Vidyalaya, Tamulia, marking the end of four days of intense competition. Held from May 28 to 31, the championship was jointly organized by the Jamshedpur Basketball Association and the Saraikela Basketball Association under the aegis of the Jharkhand Basketball Association (JBA).

The closing ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Chief Guest Raj Kumar Singh (former ZIP Vice President) and Guest of Honour Sakil Mehendi (City Manager). Also present were JBA President Harbhajan Singh, Treasurer Pradeep Mukherjee, and senior members of Govind Vidyalaya including Managing Director Brahma Dutt Sharma and Principal Krishna Modak.

More than 250 players from various districts participated in the tournament, showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship. In the Girls’ category, West Singhbhum clinched the championship, followed by Jamshedpur and Jamtara. In the Boys’ category, Jamshedpur emerged victorious, with East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum finishing second and third respectively.

Top individual scorers included Abhinash of Jamshedpur (40 points) in the Boys’ category and Sneha Haiburu of West Singhbhum (20 points) in the Girls’ category. All winners were felicitated with medals and trophies.

The championship was conducted under the Basketball Federation of India’s rules and technically supervised by Arif Aftab and a dedicated team of officials. JP Singh, JBA Secretary and India team coach, provided strategic support behind the scenes.

The event concluded with the selection of 24 promising players—12 boys and 12 girls—who will represent Jharkhand in the upcoming Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
