25 illegal vendors removed in anti-encroachment drive at Sakchi

Jamshedpur: The local police along with Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) officials today carried out an drive removing encroachments from the busy Sakchi market ahead of Diwali.

The drive which began at around 11.30 and continue for about two hours was led by Sakchi than officer-in-charge Mohan Kumar Sharma. AS many as 25 illegal vendors were removed.

About 15 vendors were asked to pay fines of Rs 500 for illegally putting up shops on the footpaths inside the market. There were about half-a-dozen vendors who had to pay a double fine of Rs 1,000 for being caught for the second time. The last eviction drive at the Sakchi market was carried out in September.

The district administration has re-launched anti encroachment after the foot-path vendors who were removed from the Sakchi marketplace by the local administration had resumed their business by setting up make-shift shops at same place. According to information about 300 vendors had put up their shops at Sakchi market.

An official said that the administration is serious about the rising encroachment in the city. Steps are being taken to ensure hassle free traffic. Vendors have been warned not to put up their shops on the footpaths.

Along with the administrative officials and the police were the officials of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) who helped the police in carrying the anti-encroachment drive.

Foot-path vendors have been asked that they not be allowed to encroach any vacant portion inside the Sakchi market as it will be used for parking vehicle and facilitating the customers to walk freely.

Notably, the local administration with the help of JNAC and utility company, Jusco had cleared the Sakchi market free from congestion. After the effective anti-encroachment drive, the administration had created enough pace where the JNAC has set up parking lot in more than one spot inside the marketplace.

With city roads squeezing day by day due to encroachments, the district administration launched launch anti-encroachment drive. �We want to streamline the traffic movement in the city. We are taking initiatives to vacate the illegal constructions so that the vehicles can move easily,� said an officer of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee.
