20 candidates in fray from Ranchi seat, 11 from Khunti

Jamshedpur: Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Chhavi Ranjan Tuesday said a total of 20 candidates were found to be eligible to contest from Ranchi Lok Sabha seat while from Khunti seat, there are 11 candidates found eligible.

Addressing a press conference jointly with SP Chandan Kumar Sinha, the DC said two Balloting Unit (BU) would be used in Ranchi (Lok Sabha seat number 8) as the total number of candidates there is above 15. In Khunti, only one BU would be used, he said.

Chhavi Ranjan further said, �If during mock poll, some technical fault is found in BU, Control Unit or VVPAT, only the faulty units would be replaced.  During polling, if snag is found, BU, CU and VVPAT will be replaced together and mock poll would be conducted again. If any fault is found in VVPAT, only VVPAT would be replaced.�

The SP said so far the district had confiscated 2608 litre country-made liquor and 23,000 kg java mahua from the date of publication of poll notification. In police cases pertaining to elections, charge-sheet would be filed within 10 days. So far, there are only 14 non-bailable warrants pending for execution, he said.
