Jamshedpur, June 6: In less than a fortnight after a 10-year-old boy was drowned in the Kharkai, a teen-aged youth was drowned in the same river along Bagbera police station area on Sunday.
The victim identified as Raju Das (18) was drowned while taking bath in the river. He came out of his house at Gandhi Nagar at about 11 am on Sunday.
As the news of his drowning spread, some people who were also present near the river while taking bath had tried to save the victim, but they failed.
The drowning victim’s father, Praksh Das soon rushed to the spot and cried for help, he informed the local police station. The police pressed some local divers in the afternoon and recovered the body.
Bagbera police station OC, Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed about the drowning of a teenager in Kharkai.
” We are investigating as to what led to the drowning. From the statement of the family members, we came to know that the victim had gone to the river to taking bath and drowned. We recovered the body after pressing a couple of local divers and have sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem, ” said Singh.
“ There have been incidents in the past and people, usually teenagers and children, usually get into this point to take baths. We need to caution people against venturing into the river at such points,” said a local resident. Moreover, with water level increasing in rivers in view of Monsoon action needs to be taken as a step of precaution.
