112 rooftop restaurants operate illegally in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Mar 17: Despite being in clear violation of regulations, around 112 rooftop restaurants are currently in operation within the jurisdiction of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee. The alarming aspect is that these establishments are running without proper legal authorization. Despite persistent complaints regarding noise disturbances emanating from these venues late into the night, law enforcement agencies have been notably inactive in taking action.

In recent times, there has been a surge in the trend of establishing rooftop restaurants atop hotels and other premises. These unauthorized ventures have sprung up across various locations including Bistupur Main Road, Kadma Uliyan, Sonari Domuhani West and East Roads, Aerodrome Road, Sakchi Thakurbari Road, Pennar Road, Aambagan, and Baradwari, among others. Such unlicensed establishments are not only disrupting the peace of residential areas but are also flouting safety protocols.

Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee officials have highlighted that none of these rooftop restaurants have obtained the necessary registrations. Unlike indoor events held within enclosed spaces, these rooftop venues lack proper sound insulation, leading to the unrestricted propagation of loud music, causing significant disturbance to nearby residents.

Moreover, most of these rooftop restaurants lack official permission from civic bodies and fail to adhere to prescribed regulations. Operating in clear violation, these establishments often overlook safety measures, including the unauthorized usage of cooking equipment and gas facilities. While these venues may serve food to patrons on the terrace, they do so without the requisite permits, posing potential hazards.
