West Bokaro: To achieve the corporate objective of ‘Committed to Zero’ in safety excellence journey, Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division celebrated the month of June as ‘Zero Incident Month’.
The month-long celebrations concluded with a mega function today at Auditorium, West Bokaro attended by Mr Sahabji Kuchroo, Chief Operations, West Bokaro as Chief Guest and Mr Mohan Mahto, President, Rastriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS) as Guest of Honour along with Mr Anurag Dixit, Chief, Quarry SE, West Bokaro, Mr B V Sudhir Kumar, Chief, CB, West Bokaro, Mr Praveen Sinha, Chief, Human Resource Management, West Bokaro, Mr Kajal Hota, Chief, Engineering Services, West Bokaro, Mr Mayank Shekhar, Chief, Quarry AB, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) and Mr Tariq Anwar, Assistant Secretary, RCMS.
On the occasion, all the employees of the division along with the contractor employees took pledge to reaffirm their commitment towards safety. To make the event symbolical in terms of commitment of entire workforce, safety jacket was made mandatory for all to attend the event.
During the closing ceremony, the guests felicitated the winners of various competitions that were conducted during the month including hazard hunt competition, RED SOP visual competition, housekeeping competition, contractor site safety competition and safety quiz among employees. While, Engineering Services department won the ‘Best Safe Department’ award, Quarry SE bagged the runner-award in the category.
The dignitaries visited the safety gallery specially put up for the occasion that highlighted various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) especially the Red SOPs, Green Strips (Best Practices) and Monsoon Action Plans of various departments of West Bokaro Division. During the event, short films on road safety and best safety practices were also displayed.
Highlighting the importance of such safety functions for reinforcing the positive behavior at workplace, Mr Kuchroo said, “I believe that this is a historic event in terms of engagement of entire workforce including shopfloor workers at West Bokaro Division in the last six years. I am happy to see that the safety culture is getting imbibed in each member of our Division and this success is a result of the collaborative efforts by one and all. We all have to go through this safety excellence journey which can be only be successful if we take everyone along.”
In his address, Mr Mahto said, “I am glad to see so much participation including employees and vendor partners in this month-long celebration. By working as per proper SOP, we can avoid any incident at workplace and we should also adhere to safety guidelines beyond office hours.”
Among others present on the occasion were officials of Tata Steel, union representatives, employees, vendor partners and contract employees of the Division.
