Jamshedpur: A late-night police crackdown in the Sidhgora area has led to the arrest of a youth allegedly carrying an illegal firearm, underlining intensified efforts to curb crime in the city.
The accused, identified as Munna Verma alias Sunny Verma (30), a resident of Bagunhatu Road No. 5, was apprehended during a surprise checking drive near the Vidyapati DVC Power Grid on the night of April 27.
According to police, a patrolling team grew suspicious after noticing the youth’s unusual behavior.
“He appeared nervous during questioning, which raised further suspicion,” an officer said.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of a country-made pistol and an iron magazine from his possession.
City SP Lalit Meena said the operation was part of a broader directive issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police to intensify night patrols and conduct rigorous checks on suspicious individuals amid rising concerns over criminal activity. “We have instructed all police stations to remain vigilant and take strict action during night patrols,” he stated.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused has a criminal background and was previously involved in cases under Potka police station area.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
The action is being seen as a reflection of heightened police vigilance, with officials expressing hope that such sustained drives will further strengthen law and order in the city.
