Seraikela: Seraikela-Kharsawan police confiscated foreign liquor worth several lakh from the possession of a youth on the Seraikela-Chaibasa route on Sunday.
They arrested the youth, identified as Manish Singh alias Raja Singh, resident of Bhalubasa under Sitaramdera PS, on charges of possessing illicit liquor.
The superintendent of police, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Indrajeet Mahatha said a team of district police was conducting checking of vehicles and frisking passers-by near Birsa Chowk in Seraikela. Cops had got a tip-off about a four-wheeler, one white Tata Sumo, carrying illicit foreign liquor towards Chaibasa.
Around 8 pm, cops spotted the car and tried to stop it. Manish Singh, who drove the car, did not stop and instead sped away. Police chased the vehicle and overtook it near Kudarsai. During inspection, cops found 695 bottles of illicit liquor kept in 25 boxes.
On being asked to produce documents showing purchase of the liquor, the driver failed to do so. An FIR has been registered in this connection against the driver.
The police officers who caught the accused with the liquor included Rajeev Kumar Singh and assistant sub inspector Ram Bharosa Sharma.
