Youth arrested for selling Brown Sugar in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In a swift action against the illegal drug trade, police from Adityapur Police Station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district arrested a youth on charges of selling brown sugar near Jai Prakash Udyan on Wednesday. The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the police, indicating suspicious activity in the area.

Acting promptly on the input, a police team conducted a raid around the park and caught the accused loitering near the garden, allegedly engaging in the sale of the narcotic substance. During the operation, police recovered 10 small packets of brown sugar from the suspect’s possession.

The accused, identified as Avinash Pradhan, was taken into judicial custody following the arrest. Station in-charge Vinod Tiwari confirmed that the raid was conducted only after verifying reports of increased drug activity around the park.

“During interrogation, the accused admitted to his identity and was found in possession of the contraband. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply network and other possible links,” said Tiwari.

Police sources revealed that drug-related activities in the area had been declining over the past six months. However, a recent spike in brown sugar peddling has been noticed, particularly after the transfer of the previous station in-charge, Rajeev Kumar Singh, who was known for his strict stance on drug-related offenses.

In response to the incident, the police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and vowed to intensify surveillance and crackdown operations. “We will not allow such illegal activities to thrive in the region. Anyone involved in drug peddling will face strict legal action,” the authorities stated.
