Seraikela, May 3: A road accident claimed the life of 26-year-old Rani Hansda on Saturday afternoon near Chandil in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The incident occurred on a culvert between Chilgu and Shaharbeda under Chandil police station limits, when an unidentified vehicle collided head-on with a motorcycle.

Rani, a resident of Hathiyadih village under Gamharia police station, was riding pillion on a bike with Shibu Soren, her brother-in-law’s brother, when the accident took place. She died on the spot due to the impact. Shibu Soren (28), a resident of Jagannathpur in Ghatsila block, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur.

Upon receiving the information, police from Chandil station reached the site, arranged for the injured to be taken to the hospital, and sent Rani’s body to Sadar Hospital for postmortem.

Locals alleged that the negligence of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was responsible for the frequent accidents in the area. A stretch of the four-lane road between Chilgu and Shaharbeda had remained closed for over six months, causing traffic disruptions and fatal mishaps. Illegal parking of heavy vehicles along the road had worsened the situation, especially for two-wheeler riders.
