XLRI students take lessons on prevention of sexual harassment

Jamshedpur : Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) at XLRI, in association with student body Committee for Awareness, Sensitization and Empowerment (CEASE)organised a two-hour workshop Draw the Line on the prevention of sexual harassment.

The workshop was attended by students of all the batches, Human Resources Management, Business Management, and Global Management Programme, and the staff members and faculty.

Swati Jena, an XLRI alumnus, one of LinkedIns Top Voices of India 2017-18 and author of the book The Entrepreneur’s Soulbook: Part I: Is it your cup of tea? conducted the workshop.

Swatis LinkedIn article ”She has a good figure”: Why creating a safe workplace takes much more than sexual harassment policy voiced the need to widen the discussion around safe workplaces and that a sexual harassment policy is definitely necessary, but simply not sufficient.

The workshop talked about understanding sexual harassment in lieu of the POSH act, which has defined what constitutes sexual harassment under Section 2 (n). The students also discussed potential pitfalls that they might face in various scenarios, including social media and parties.

The students were guided on how to file an official complaint and through which channels. The workshop also discussed how to build a safe culture and how individuals can contribute towards that goal.

CEASE, working under the aegis of CASH Faculty Committee, serves as the official student body responsible for generating awareness of gender-related issues and sensitisation against sexual harassment.

The student wing is duty-bound to ensure that any student can come forward and raise their concerns with CEASE without fearing repercussions or being dragged into any unpleasantness.
