Jamshedpur, Dec. 13: There is a lot of talent hidden in many remote areas of our country and such talent needs proper platform and facilities to give their talents wings of dream.
A group of HRM students from XLRI believed in the same and decided to make an impact into the lives of underprivileged children getting access to elementary education through an NGO named ‘Sankalp- NIT Jamshedpur’.
After a few visits to the NGO and subsequent interactions with the kids, the XLers found out that apart from academics, students were really good at painting, dancing, singing and what not! But much to their disappointment, the classrooms had barely any facilities that were conducive to learning.
The walls were bare, floor was rough, students having to use their laps to take notes due to lack of benches. To change these and make learning a happy experience for kids, the XLRI students organized drives to raise funds from faculty on campus and via a crowd funding platform, “Milaap”, said, Akshay Gupta, one of the members of the group.
He further said that the funds collected were used to renovate the classrooms, buying desks, and educational charts to facilitate learning through visual means. The joy on the faces of the kids when they entered the renovated classroom was absolutely priceless. The XLers also organized a few competitions like singing, dancing, quizzing etc. while distributing essential stationery and other goodies to the kids.
The evening was memorable to both the kids and the organizers.
Looking for a sustainable future, the students from XLRI have helped Sankalp approach a public sector bank for gathering funds on an annual basis which would be used for sponsoring higher education of students. Some of the students who had exceptional talent in painting were given advice on how they can develop on their gifts and monetize their paintings in art galleries if they ever feel the need to do so.
XLRI students Akshay Gupta, Ankit Bhattacharjee, Diksha Rakwal, Eshita Gupta, Lohith Kaliki, Nitin Agarwal, Rishab Agarwal, Shashwat Dixit, Shivam Juneja, Sonia Chandan and the entire Sankalp team made sure that their efforts bore fruit.
