Jamshedpur : The fifth annual Jamshedpur Run, organised by CII Yi XLRI Net as part of Valhalla 2014, is just around the corner as more and more enthusiasts are jumping on to the bandwagon.
People from all walks of life, be it school and college students, faculty members, industry experts, dignitaries and citizens of the city all of them are gearing up to be part of the excitement on Sunday, 27 July.
The mini marathon mirrors the enthusiasm that is reflected in the culture of this city. The run is organized as one of the foremost events of Valhalla, the annual sports and cultural festival of XLRI. Valhalla 2014 will be hosted for 3 days, and will see students from the best campuses across India battle it out on the field and the stage.
Upholding the legacy of promoting social harmony and youth empowerment, the Yi (Young Indians) Net at XLRI Jamshedpur, a movement promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) conceptualised the mini marathon in 2010.
The team blends the XLRI tradition of encouraging socially responsible businesses with the Yi mission of motivating a generational change in the economic and social agenda of India. In its past editions, the Jamshedpur Run has focused on issues such as Corporate Peace, Say no to Plastic, and Run for your Dreams.
This year, the theme We Can, We Will reflects the perseverance within each of us to stand strong in the face of adversity.
In 2013, more than 700 enthusiasts took part in the run, and this number is expected to cross 1000 this year. The run was graced by the presence of several dignitaries from the city, along with CII officers, corporate executives, XLRI faculty, and students from top B-schools XLRI, IIMs, MDI, XIMB, and SIBM.
This year, the run will be flagged off from the XLRI main gate, by the legendary mountaineer, Ms. Bachendri Pal, Head, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and Mr. Tarun Daga, the Chairman, CII (Jharkhand).
The mini marathon will aim to congregate the youth and sensitize them towards their individual social responsibility of bringing more smiles in the lives of strangers in whichever way small or big they can.
The run is a great opportunity to promote the feeling of fraternity among the residents of the city by bringing them on a common platform.
The students of XLRI hope that the residents of the city extend their support to this edition of Jamshedpur Run, just as they have done in the past.
