Legacy a risk without reinvention: Anirban Banerjee
Jamshedpur, September 1: XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the PGDM (General Management) cohort, hosted an insightful and inspiring session on “Transforming Legacy” with Anirban Banerjee, Chief Executive Officer, Eveready Industries India Limited.
The objective of the session was to help students understand how legacy brands can sustain relevance and growth in a rapidly changing business landscape. The discourse aimed at providing future leaders with practical insights into balancing tradition with innovation and instilling a deeper appreciation of strategic agility and inclusive leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Banerjee reflected on Eveready’s journey and stressed that while legacy provides a foundation of strength, it can also become a risk if organizations fail to reinvent themselves. “Survival in business is never guaranteed, even for industry leaders. Reinvention, agility and continuous alignment with evolving consumer preferences are essential to thrive in today’s market,” he emphasized.
Sharing examples from Eveready’s transformation, Banerjee elaborated on how the brand has leveraged its unmatched distribution network while simultaneously repositioning itself to appeal to modern consumers. He further highlighted Eveready’s social inclusion initiative #AawazUthaneyKaPower developed in collaboration with India Signing Hands, which makes the company’s products more accessible to the deaf community. This initiative, he noted reflects Eveready’s vision of transformation that not only drives business but also creates meaningful societal impact.

The session concluded with an engaging discussion, where Mr. Saurabh Naskar and Mr. Joseph Thomas also contributed their perspectives, enriching the dialogue with the PGDM (GM) cohort. Students expressed that the session sharpened their understanding of leadership, brand stewardship and inclusive business models, adding significant value to their learning journey at XLRI.
On behalf of XLRI, Prof. Sunil Sarangi extended heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Banerjee for his time and valuable insights and presented him with a token of appreciation.
The event reinforced XLRI’s commitment to nurturing responsible leaders who can integrate legacy, innovation and inclusivity in their leadership journey for the greater good.
