Jamshedpur: A one-day seminar, “Problems and Concerns in Implementing Life Skills in the Upper Primary and Secondary Education System in the Context of the National Education Policy” was held today at the Father Prabhu Auditorium, XLRI. The seminar was sponsored by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, and organized by the Socio-Economic and Education Development Society (SEEDS).

Educationalists Dr. Nidhi Mishra, Faculty in Organizational Behavior at XLRI, Dr. Shukla Mohanty, former Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University and Dr. Shubhra Divedi, Secretary of SEEDS, highlighted the importance of life skills education and shared insights on its implementation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nidhi Mishra emphasized that while academic excellence was often prioritized, life skills education was equally, if not more, essential for holistic development. Dr. Shukla Mohanty stressed the need to promote life skills in government and rural schools, ensuring that students in these institutions were equally equipped for life beyond academics.

Participants included women leaders from SEEDS, BEOs, headmasters, teachers, Panchayat representatives, SMC members, parents and students from 13 schools, including DBMS and Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Uma Nath Singh, a teacher from PM Shri Plus-2 High School, Simuldanga, remarked, “If you have the skills to live life, you are truly skilled.”

The seminar featured an interactive question-and-answer session, which was well-received by attendees. SEEDS Program Coordinator Mahanand Jha concluded the event by proposing a vote of thanks. (w/gsd)
