Mukhiyas, Jalsahiyas Contributions Celebrated on World Water Day

Jamshedpur: The “World Water Day-cum-Water Festival Fortnight” celebrated local leaders and volunteers who demonstrated exceptional commitment to water conservation and rural supply management.

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi presided over the concluding ceremony of the event at the Collectorate Auditorium.

Call for Public Action on Conservation

Addressing the gathering, Satyarthi emphasized that water serves as the foundation of life and urged every citizen to accept responsibility for its preservation. He advocated for increased public participation in rainwater harvesting and stressed the need for aggressive awareness campaigns to prevent water wastage.

As a highlight of the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner honoured several Jalsahiyas (community water volunteers) for their pivotal role in managing rural water systems and ensuring access to safe drinking water. He lauded their efforts in educating villagers and maintaining local infrastructure.

Sustainability and the Jal Jeevan Mission

During a review of activities conducted between March 8 and March 22, officials discussed the long-term sustainability of regional water schemes. The Deputy Commissioner urged Jalsahiyas to encourage the timely payment of water usage charges, noting that community contributions are essential for maintaining these systems.

He further demanded high standards for the operation and maintenance of projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. To foster peer learning, several Mukhiyas and Jalsahiyas shared their firsthand experiences and insights regarding the implementation of Nal-Jal (Tap Water) schemes in their respective panchayats.
