Jamshedpur: World Steel Safety Day and Fire Safety Week concluded on Tuesday at Steelenium Hall. It was a week long programme held from April 14 � 21 with the theme �Process Safety, Fire Safety and Disaster Management.�
The programme was in line with the Fire Service Week (FSW) which is observed nation-wide under the guidance of the Fire Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India. This week is observed to commemorate the lives lost in the explosive fire that erupted on April 14, 1944 at the Victoria Dock in the Bombay Port.
Uttam Singh, Chief, Blast Furnace, Tata Steel briefed the audience about the various competitions that were held throughout the week. The winners of these competitions were felicitated by the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mohan Lal, Vice President (Engineering and Projects) Tata Steel and Guest of Honour, R Ravi Prasad, Treasurer, Tata Workers� Union (TWU). The week also focused on events such as Panel Discussion on Cyber Safety and Fire Safety for training for the Contractor as well as Employees.
Mohan Lal spoke about high probability of disasters that take place in spite of the presence of various Process safety measures and risk management system. He emphasized that there is a need to bridge the gap between safety policy decisions and their implementation.
R Ravi Prasad shared his work related experiences with the LD2 department. He also suggested that a Hindi version of company�s SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to be introduced and placed at various plants.
A communication pack (incident based Video Film – Part 5) followed by a book launch of Process Safety � Lessons to Learn and Process Safety Management system Workbook took place during the closing function. Besides these, Arghyer Deb and Kamlesh Prasad from Tata Steel were recognized for their exceptional communication efforts and assistance towards roadside fatalities.
