Workshop on safety for vendor partners

West Bokaro: A two-day workshop by Safety Department of Tata Steel�s West Bokaro Division organized for vendor partners, contractor supervisors and contractor site safety supervisors on �Contractor Safety Management Star Rating Improvement� at JRD Tata Training Centre, West Bokaro concluded on Friday.

The workshop attended by 57 participants focused primarily on gaps identified during audit of star rating of contractors. The workshop aimed at discussing various criteria to be met to achieve 4-star certification apart from inculcating safety culture within the contractor employees, improving shop floor safety and improving safety communication.

Sahabji Kuchroo, Chief Operations, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) graced the occasion as chief guest and inaugurated the two-day workshop.

Briefing the participants regarding the importance of safety, Kuchroo said: “Safety is of utmost importance in Tata Steel. There is nothing more important than life and hence safety can never be ignored or compromised. The best way to avoid any incident is to identify all probable hazards and removal of the same at the very first place. We have recently initiated �Humsafar�, a safety initiative for contractor employees and this workshop will help in improving the competency of vendor partners working with us in various high-risk jobs. All these initiatives will help us achieve our objective of zero incident.�

During the two-day workshop, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Manager, Contractor Safety, Tata Steel (Jamshedpur) briefed the audience about various safety issues specific to contractor safety management and also informed the participants regarding various platforms to raise their safety concerns.

It is worth mentioning here that as per safety standards of Tata Steel, a minimum of 3-star rating is required by any vendor partner or contractor to get any high-risk service job in the company.
