Jamshedpur, July 29: A workshop on pottery and potters’ wheel was organized for the students of School of Fine Arts wing of Srinath University in Adityapur on Friday, July 29 in the University campus. Pottery and Ceramic artist from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Arun Kumar Mukhuty conducted the workshop. In his address to the participating students, Arun Mukhuty explained about the processes and techniques of pottery designing and slab building on the potter’s wheel.
During the practical session, Arun Mukhuty taught the students the art of mixing clay and then the manner of placing clay and giving shapes to pottery items by rotating the potter’s wheel.
Assistant Professor. Nalin Chandra said “Fine arts stimulate creativity and innovation in students. The study of Fine Arts has a much wider scope and it opens up several employment avenues.”
Head of Department (School of Fine Arts), Ganesh Mahato observed, “Students have been provided the learn pottery making which in itself is fascinating where students can explore innovative ways and designs and benefit greatly from what they learn and explore.”
The students of the School of Fine Arts who participated in the workshop made several items and differently designed items of crockery under the guidance of Arun Kumar Mukhuty who also answered several questions put across to him by the students.
