Workshop on ‘Mathematics for sustainable development’ at Srinath University Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, March 18: The Department of Mathematics at Srinath University organized a two-day workshop titled ‘Mathematical Science for Sustainable Future,’ aimed at promoting scientific awareness and the role of mathematics in sustainable development.

The workshop began with an inaugural ceremony attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Shivanand Singh, Registrar Dr. Yahya Majumdar, and other senior academicians. Chief guests and keynote speakers Vikas Kumar and Ankur Shaswat addressed participants on the first day, sharing valuable insights on scientific thinking and holistic development. The session also featured documentary screenings on the lives of renowned mathematicians and scientists, inspiring students to explore the subject more deeply.

On the second day, keynote speakers Dr Amitabh Bose and Dr Nayan Mukhopadhyay led engaging sessions. Dr Bose highlighted the historical evolution and future prospects of mathematics, emphasizing its foundational importance across disciplines. Dr Mukhopadhyay focused on promoting scientific temper and rational thinking, urging participants to reject superstition and social evils. Along with members of the West Bengal Science Forum, he demonstrated practical experiments to raise awareness against blind beliefs.

The event was anchored by students Nandini Singh and Preeti Kumari Mahto, with active participation from faculty and students. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tarun Kumar Mahto, Head of the Mathematics Department, marking the event as a meaningful and enriching academic initiative.
