Jamshedpur, March 14: In a tragic incident, a bike-borne 18-year-old first-year commerce student of the Mango-based Jamshedpur Workers’ College was killed in a road mishap on the Slag Road near a Kali temple under Sitaramdera police station area.
The mishap victim was identified as Ranjan Satpathy, son of Rishikesh Satpathy and a resident of Kalyan Nagar in Bhuiyandih. The mishap took place as the victim tried to save a cyclist, but rammed into a truck parked near a motor garage.
According to sources, the victim had gone to the Sitaramdera Bus Terminus to drop a relative at the bus-stand and met with the accident while returning home.
Following the collision, Ranjan fell on the ground surrounded by a pool of blood. Soon locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. He was rushed to the MGM Medical College and Hospital emergency, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The victim’s father is a priest and earned a living by performing pujas in the shops and households.
Officer-in-charge of Sitaramdera police station, Jayant Tirkey confirmed that the teenager died in mishap. “We are probing into the incident, but as per primary information, the truck was parked in a garage.
The accident occurred as the bike rider lost control over the vehicle owing to high speed,” said Tirkey.
He pointed out they would look into whether the victim possessed a valid driving license and would also interrogate the bike owner.
