Jamshedpur, July 11: A public awareness programme on population control was organized at Seraikela Sadar Hospital on the occasion of World Population Day under the aegis of district health department here on Thursday. A rally was taken out from the old health centre to Sadar Hospital. Health workers and school children participated in the rally.

The programme was inaugurated by Zila Parishad president Shakuntala Mahali. She said all individuals should participate in the national population control programme by playing their crucial role. She said the role of women has become very important in family planning measures since female literacy rate has gone up in the last few decades. She said the Central and state governments were running many schemes for family planning. These schemes should be effectively implemented through public participation, she said.
Mahali said the health department had started many schemes for Sahiyas.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Himanshu Bariyar said growing population had become a major problem in the modern times. Population boom has created problems in many areas, he said.
Dr Bariyar appealed to health department workers to take the family planning programme from door to door to ensure its success.
