Women of Hathivinda panchayat organize procession against alcoholism

Jadugora: A large number of women from Hathivinda panchayat under Jadugora police station area here on Sunday took out a procession against alcoholism and liquor trade.

They earlier held a meeting to discuss the issue of alcoholism and its adverse impact on the life of villagers. It was unanimously decided to intensify campaign against liquor consumption and its sale and distillation. The meeting was presided over by the Mukhiya of Hathivinda panchayat Kanak Sardar.

After pasting posters outside some of the houses, few women leaders of the campaign received threats from several local youths. The incident was condemned by the women who raised slogans going door to door and appealed to the people to quit drinking. The women also threatened to demolish all distilleries in case they were not closed down by their owners on their own.

Among those present during the procession included Jyoti Murmu, Churamuni Murmu, Mamata Mahato, Manjurani Mahato, Vinoka Mahato and Kalpana Hansda.
