Jamshedpur: In a joint operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a woman thief at Tatanagar railway station for stealing passengers’ belongings.

The accused has been identified as Pallavi Devi alias Nisha, a resident of Rohtas district in Bihar. Police recovered stolen items including ₹3,700 cash, a gold chain, a mangalsutra and other valuables.

The case dates back to August 19, when a woman passenger reported theft of her purse and jewellery at GRP police station. CCTV footage from the station revealed Pallavi’s suspicious movements, leading to her identification and arrest.

During questioning, she confessed to being a habitual offender who specifically targeted women boarding or alighting trains. “She is a professional thief and has been involved in several such incidents at different stations,” said an RPF inspector.

Police have handed her over to GRP for further investigation. Meanwhile, railway authorities have urged passengers to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to RPF or GRP.
