Woman jumps into well with three children near Jamshedpur, mother rescued

Seraikela: In Kumharsai, Kharsawan, a mother threw herself and her three children into a well following a dispute with her husband. The unfortunate incident resulted in the tragic death of the three children, while the mother survived.

The family, comprising Ashok Mahato, a resident of Kudu village in Lohardaga, and his wife Pooja Mahato with three children, had been living in a rented house in Kumharsai village. Frequent disputes between the couple, particularly related to a recent altercation over visiting Pooja’s parents, had become a recurring issue. In response to one of their fights, Pooja complained to the Kharsawan police.

Upset by the police complaint, Ashok Mahato left the house on Saturday, leaving the family in distress. On Sunday morning, around 10 o’clock, when neighbors attempted to contact the family, there was no response. Concerned, some individuals entered the house from the back door and heard cries coming from the well. To their horror, they discovered Pooja Mahato hanging on to the water motor in the well.

Local residents rescued Pooja from the well, but there was no sign of the three children. Pooja disclosed that she had jumped into the well with her children: Komal Kumari (9 years old), Ananya Mahato (5 years old), and Aryan Mahato (2 years old). With the assistance of Kharsawan police, the bodies of the three children were recovered from the well and transported to Seraikela for post-mortem examinations.
