Jamshedpur: In a high-stakes political gamble, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has placed its faith in Purnima Das Sahu, the daughter-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Odisha Governor, Raghubar Das. She’s set to contest from Jharkhand’s most fiercely watched battleground—the Jamshedpur East Assembly seat, a constituency that once stood as a saffron fortress but slipped away in 2019.
If she triumphs, Purnima will make history as only the second woman MLA of this industrial hub — Ratan Tata’s second home — following in the footsteps of none other than Bollywood- Hollywood megastar Priyanka Chopra’s grandmother, Jyotsna Akhouri, who clinched victory back in 1967. The pressure is immense. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and BJP leaders are confident she can pull off a win that could shift the political landscape, breaking a five-year drought for the party in Jamshedpur.
Purnima Das Sahu said, “I am thankful to the senior party leaders for selecting me for the crucial seat. My major focus will be for all-round development of women and children.”

Raghubar Das, who had won five consecutive terms from Jamshedpur East before a shocking defeat in 2019 at the hands of Saryu Roy, had once transformed this seat into an unshakable BJP stronghold. But after Roy’s split from the party and his victory as an independent, the winds in Jamshedpur shifted, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the BJP’s reign.
Yet, in a stunning move that rattled party insiders, Purnima, a political novice, has emerged victorious within her own party, securing the coveted ticket over several heavyweights. Names like Shiv Shankar Singh, Amarpreet Singh Kale, and even Raghubar Das’s nephew Dinesh Kumar had all thrown their hats in the ring, hoping to claim the BJP’s trust for this crucial seat. But it was Purnima who shattered expectations, sidelining the seasoned veterans to stand as the face of the saffron brigade in Jamshedpur East.
With election result set for November 23, all eyes are on Purnima. Can she reignite the saffron flame in Jamshedpur, or will history continue to favor the challengers? Will she be able to recreate the magic of 1967 and join the ranks of Jyotsna Akhouri, cementing her place as the second woman to ever represent Jamshedpur in the state legislature?
As the countdown to election day begins, one thing is clear—the battle for Jamshedpur East is far from predictable, and Purnima Das Sahu is at the heart of it all, poised to make—or break—political history.

May bbe wrong decision by BJP any way wish her for good luck
