Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is investigating money laundering in the Ranchi land scam, has called Chief Minister Hemant Soren for questioning on Wednesday. This is the fifth summons sent to him by ED. The Chief Minister did not appear for questioning on the last four summons.
There is less possibility of CM going to ED office even on the fifth summons. On the advice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Minister has filed a petition in the High Court against the ED action. It has not been listed for hearing yet. On Wednesday, his advocate will mention it in the High Court (requesting early hearing).
The Chief Minister had earlier asked the ED to withdraw the summons alleging that the ED was working at the behest of the Center and was trying to influence the government elected through the public.
When the Chief Minister did not reach the ED’s first summons on August 14, the ED summoned him for the second time on August 24, but even on that day the Chief Minister did not reach the ED office. He had sent a letter to ED informing that he has challenged the rights of ED in the Supreme Court.
When no information was given to ED from the court, ED summoned him for the third time on September 9. When the Chief Minister did not reach the ED office even on September 9, the ED issued a fourth summons to him and asked him to appear in the ED office on September 23.
Even that day he did not reach the ED office and filed a petition in the High Court. After this, ED has summoned him for the fifth time and asked him to appear in the ED office on October 4.
