Gamharia : In yet another case of tusker menace, a 40-year old man, who was trying to run out a herd of wild elephants from paddy fields along with other villagers, was killed by one of the pachyderms in Rajakunder village.
The victim Longo Manjhi, a resident of the same village, had joined a group of over a hundred villagers who had assembled on the outskirts to chase out the elephants from their fields.
In the meantime one of the pachyderms went berserk and caught him with his trunk and threw down forcefully killing him on the spot.
The elephants ruined paddy crops before moving to the adjacent jungles. The forest department officials said that the elephants are fond of paddy.
When they move in their migratory path they stomach the standing crops by grazing the paddy fields. On their return they target the harvested crops kept inside the house.
