Wild elephant herd wreaks havoc in Chakulia, endangering farmers and villagers

Chakulia, Oct 22: A formidable group of 40 wild elephants has descended upon the vicinity of Badamchatti, situated in the Baddikanpur-Kalapathar area of Chakulia block, raising concerns among local residents. These marauding elephants have embarked on a rampage through the lush paddy fields, ruthlessly trampling and devouring the valuable crops. The farming community in the region now grapples with fear and uncertainty as their livelihoods are jeopardized by these unwelcome visitors.

The disruption caused by these relentless elephants persisted through the night, as they inflicted extensive damage to the standing paddy crops in neighboring villages. As the sun set on Saturday evening, these wild intruders emerged from the forest, initiating a trail of destruction in the heart of the paddy fields.

The repercussions of this visitation extend across multiple villages, including Raghunathpur, Malkham, Chiyabandhi, Mayurnachni, and numerous others under the jurisdiction of Sonahatu Panchayat. The aftermath is grimly apparent, with fields bearing the scars of devastation. The elephant-induced crisis has prompted an unofficial curfew, rendering villagers hesitant to venture outside their homes, gripped by the looming threat these colossal creatures pose.
