Who�s who participate in Yoga in Jamshedpur, practitioners adhere to social distancing

Jamshedpur, June 21: Who�s who of the city from Union Minister Arjun Munda to former CM Raghubar Das practiced Yoga to mark International Yoga Day on Sunday. In wake of COVID-19, they performed Yoga at their respective homes following social distancing. Several leaders, social workers and activists performed yoga at home.

In his message, BJP leader Amarpreet Singh Kale said fitness is the need of the hour and there can�t be better than yoga. He noted that it is a pride moment to learn that countries across the world has accepted yoga and are celebrating International Day of Yoga today. It is high time that we make yoga a part of our life.

Another fitness enthusiast Jhumpa Das said that Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body  thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Several organisations conducted virtual yoga sessions to reach out to fitness enthusiasts.

City-based yoga expert Om Narayan said: �We all know that yoga has multiple therapeutic benefits. Apart from increased flexibility, balanced energy levels and a composed mind, for some, yoga helps to slow down the ageing process. I have been practising yoga for the last 20 years. Yoga has the power to align your body and emotions together. It lets you work in a composed manner. All you have to do is invest 30-45 minutes a day on yoga and see its wonderful impact on your physical and mental wellbeing.�

Yoga is more than a mere workout for Sambhavi Saxena, a banker. She says yoga helped her get rid of acute spondilitis. �Thankfully, I was able to join a yoga clinic as soon as I identified my problem, five years back. Today, I am able to balance my work-life better,� she said.

�I have been doing yoga for two years. It�s very important to practice yoga if you want to stay fit,� said another resident.

The East Singhbhum district education department had also directed all government schools to perform the 33-minute virtual yoga session. Private English medium schools also conducted sessions for children and teachers to promote yoga for a healthy life.

 Every year International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21. The Yoga practitioners adhered to the Covid-19 guidelines including social distancing. The International Yoga Day was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014.
