‘Wheels 2018’ to rock Jamshedpur from Jan 12

30 events lined up for techno-cultural festival

Jamshedpur: It is that time of the year again when as the winter sets in, exams tend to get over and people bask in the festive mood of Christmas and New Year, The Graduate Engineer Trainee (G.E.T) Club is all set for �Wheels 2018�- the much-awaited techno-cultural festival for the youth of Jamshedpur, to be held from 12 to 14 January, 2018. The 31st edition of the fest promises great exuberance.
First rolled out in 1987, this year the theme for 31st edition of Wheels is �ANTARIX -defying gravity”.

Manas Mishra, general manager, Tata Motors and also the chairperson of GET Club, said, the theme for the ‘Wheels 2018’ calls for participants ‘to explore the entire universe, its infinity, magnificence and perpetuity, that will not only let them enjoy, embark and explore the innocence of childhood but will also instill in them the qualities of a responsible citizen of the society.’

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mishra informed that Wheels 2018 Prelims will be held from 21st to 23rd December 2017 and the finals will be organized in the period from 12th January to 14th January 2018.

Apart from this, GET Club will also organize a marathon with the underlying agenda of promoting unity on December 24th 2017.

Mishra further said that going with our 30-year legacy, this year as well, we will have a lot of events to instill the spirit of sportsmanship and also provide a platform to the youth of Jamshedpur to showcase their talent. 30 varied events are planned under the categories of Cultural, Technical, Sports & Gaming, CSR, Quizzing and Informals.

‘To promote responsibility among the youth, we have an environment themed event – Space Junk- a paper bag making competition. At Wheels 2018, we are also providing a platform for students with special abilities to showcase their talent in an event specifically designed for them – Eklavya, added Mishra.

Events secretary Swarup Subundi said that the events at the 3-day fest includes cultural activities such as dancing stars (solo-duet-group), Mouciqi (Singing), Battle of bands, rangmanch, nukkad, youth parliament, creatuve writing (Englis-Hindi). Technical events include Escape velocity, Energy and Mars Colonization.
Informals events line paint fiesta, rangoli, face painting, sapce hunt, sherlocked, clay-dough, pixar and Brand-o-Mania. Quiz and gaming events like need for speed, counter-Strike, Invasion: League of Guardians-Gully Cricket, Galactic Soccer league and Space Jam Basketball, Subundi added.

Wheels Marathon, this year has the theme – “Together we Can” and will be organized in the Telco Colony area. It shows that together we can achieve anything that we believe in. Together we can take our country to a new level.

During the Finals, the finalists as selected from the Prelims will compete for the prizes. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on the morning of 14th January 2018. The evenings of 12th and 13th January, will witness performances by eminent artists and bands. In addition, a Mega-Nite will be held on the 14th of January 2018, wherein audience will witness star performances.

Also present at the press meet were Squadron leader Naseeb Singh Kadyan, Amaya Singha, Ravi Shankar Singh, Mohit Singh and Adarsh Puri.
