West Singhbhum: Security forces foil Naxal plot, IED defused

Jamshedpur: In a significant achievement for security forces, a 5 KG Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was successfully defused near the Laisaldih area under Goilkera Police Station in West Singhbhum. The IED was planted by Naxal elements with the intent to target security personnel and disrupt ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the region.

The discovery and neutralization of the explosive were made possible due to the relentless efforts of joint security forces, including: CRPF Battalions: 209 BN, 203 BN, 60 BN, 197 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, 134 BN, and 26 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar (special anti-Naxal unit) and Local Police from Goilkera and surrounding areas

The forces, operating under a coordinated strategy, successfully neutralized the threat, ensuring the safety of the locals and the security personnel operating in the area.

The Naxal-affected areas of West Singhbhum, including Goilkera, Sonua, and adjacent regions, have been under strict surveillance as part of the ongoing anti-Naxal operations. The coordinated efforts are aimed at dismantling Naxal networks, curbing their movements, and securing vulnerable zones.

According to police sources, the IED was strategically planted to target security forces patrolling the area. However, due to timely intelligence inputs and enhanced surveillance, the device was detected and safely defused.

The Naxal groups, known for their guerrilla tactics, have been increasingly resorting to IEDs and landmines to target security forces in the dense forest areas of West Singhbhum. In response, security forces have intensified their anti-Naxal campaigns, deploying specialized units and modern surveillance equipment.

A senior security official stated, “The deployment of multiple CRPF battalions and the coordinated approach with the Jharkhand Jaguar has been crucial in countering Naxal threats. Our teams are on high alert, and operations will continue to ensure the safety of civilians and security personnel.”

The defusal of the IED is part of the larger anti-Naxal initiative currently active in West Singhbhum. Security forces have been conducting intensive combing operations and area domination exercises to flush out Naxal elements from the region.

“ The successful defusal of the 5 KG IED is not just a tactical win but also a psychological victory against Naxal insurgents attempting to instill fear among security forces and local communities. This operation showcases the effectiveness of enhanced intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and proactive counter-insurgency strategies. With the Naxal threat still looming, security forces are maintaining high alert in Goilkera, Sonua, and neighboring areas. Additional patrols, road-opening parties, and aerial surveillance have been deployed to secure strategic routes and prevent further Naxal attempts,” said an official.
