West Singhbhum police to take hardcore criminal on remand

Jamshedpur : West Singhbhum police have decided to take arrested hardcore rebel Williams Hansda to police remand in connection to the massacre of 32 policemen at Baliba in Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district in April 2004.
West Singhbhum district superintendent of police Pankaj Kamboj said that they will soon send a team to Hazaribagh for taking the arrested rebel into police remand.
Apart from Baliba massacre, Williams was wanted in connection with as many as the murder five policemen in separate incidents of violence in Saranda till the year 2010.
The arrest of Williams is an important for the West Singhbhum police as they expect to get infomation about the activities of Maoists in Saranda forest during the interrogation of the hardcore rebel.
Kamboj informed that Williams’ wife Kristina, who is also a naxal is presently lodged at the Chaibasa Divisional Jail since the past four years.
In all 32 policemen, including Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF) jawans were killed in an ambush at Baliba village on April 7, 2004.
�We cannot reveal on the status of the interrogation due to security reasons but yes we quizzing to dig out further links,� said a district police official. He said that the forces are targeting the different areas under the Saranda forest. Police said that the security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxlites. �There has been a substantial increase in Maoist activities in this area. We are not much concerned about small acts of violence because these activities can be controlled by us, but the bigger attacks are worrisome,� said a security official.
