West Singhbhum: PLFI ultras open fire, woman injured

Jamshedpur, Jan 18: Ultras belonging to outlawed outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) opened fire indiscriminately in Karika village of Naxal-affected Bandgaon police station in West Singhbhum district. A woman was injured in the incident. The police have referred the injured woman to Khunti where after first aid she was sent to Ranchi RIMS for better treatment.

According to the information received in connection with the incident, around 10 PLFI ultras had reached Karika village of Bandgaon police station area. Later, for some reason, opposition to the Naxalites started, following which the whole village raised the alarm against the Naxalites. Meanwhile, the Naxalites fired indiscriminately, due to which Karmi Hasa Purti, a resident of Karika village, got shot in the leg. After getting the information of the incident, Bandgaon police station in-charge Vikas Kumar sent an ambulance and sent the woman to Khunti for better treatment. Seeing his condition, the doctors sent him to Ranchi RIMS for better treatment. There has been a lot of panic in the area since this incident.

An official said that a woman has been injured by the Naxalites’ bullet, and she has been sent to Ranchi Rims for better treatment. The police are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, the local administration has increased police patrolling along the border with West Bengal and has deployed an adequate number of paramilitary personnel in areas vulnerable to rebel attack.Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure the security of the people. This time, all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines, “said another official.

All the police stations in the three districts of  the division, including East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan, have been asked to beef up the security and keep a vigil in the bordering areas.

The forces have started frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary forces on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.
