West Singhbhum: Five jawans injured in encounter with Maoists in Chaibasa, airlifted to Ranchi


Jamshedpur, Dec 1: In a fierce encounter with Maoists in Goilkera,  West Singhbhum on Thursday morning, five jawans of 209 Cobra Battalion were injured. The five jawans were identified as Sushil Lakra (25) , Suraj Kumar (29), Budhdev Kishan (29), Krishna Bokare (31) and Sandeep M Later, all were airlifted to Ranchi in the afternoon. They were soon taken to Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Super Specialty Hospital by ambulance.

According to information, an encounter broke out between the police and the ultras during the search operation on Thursday. Additional vacant police force was sent to the spot and senior police officers were also present at the spot.

According to information, the encounter was led by Ajay Mahto, who hails from Misir Besra Squad, carrying a reward of 25 lakhs.

A senior official said that acting on a secret information, they found that the team of Ajay Mahto, who was carrying a reward of 25 lakhs, and a member of the Misir Besra Squad was camping at Tonto area.

As the security forces were conducting a search operation in the area since morning, the firing started by the Maoists in the middle of the forest. The security forces retaliated and firing continued for the last three hours.

Sources informed that during the encounter four jawans were injured. Lakra, a resident of Tumilia of Sundargarh district in Odisha has received leg injuries. Kumar, a resident of Pure Khale in Raebareli district of UP was injured in right leg. Kishan, a resident of Kardakahaman in Odisha, has a left hand injury. Bokare, a resident of Rampur in Karnataka, has an upper chest injury.

The official said the police and paramilitary forces have started an intensified anti-insurgency operation surrounding Goilkera. “We have started the anti-insurgency in the surrounding villages. 

The administration has increased police patrolling on the bordering areas connecting to West Bengal and has also deployed an adequate number of paramilitary personnel on areas potential to rebels attack. ” Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure security of the people. This time all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines,” said another official.

Sources informed that the mobility of the police has prevented the extremists from carrying out any violent activity in the past few days in the entire Kolhan. All the police stations in the three districts of  the division including East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan have been asked to beef up the security and keep a vigil at the bordering areas.
