Weights and Measurement Department and oil companies team inspect petrol pumps


Jamshedpur : Following the crackdown on petrol pumps at Lucknow by UP Special Task Force and officials of the oil companies checking for tampering of fuel dispensing machines, a team of oil company HPCL and Weight and Measurement Department, carried inspection of several petrol pumps.

The team went to several pumps in Bistupur and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements. The dealers are following the norms set by the petroleum companies. In Lucknow the pumps were found indulging in malpractices and were seized.

The team was led by S K Pandey of Weights and Measurement Department, along with Ashwini Kumar and Abhishek Kumar of HPCL. The inspection started at New Mordern Auto Store in Bistupur. Pandey said that they have carried inspection and they are happy with weights and measures. The team were satisfied with the facilities.

Harvinder Singh, owner of New Modern Auto Store at Bistupur, said that the company HPCL has installed automated machines. This will ensure that the rates will be updated every day.

Meanwhile, the dynamic fuel pricing has paved way for modernisation of petrol filling stations across the city. With the introduction of daily pricing of petrol and diesel oil companies have also asked its dealers for a makeover. The fuel dispensing stations are now been linked virtually to the oil company and every night at pm the change is effected automatically.

Jamshedpur Petroleum Dealers Association president Rajiv Kumar said that the initiative taken by the oil companies has led to the petrol pumps going digitally advanced. “ We have also asked supervisors to maintain a vigil on the prices every night. The automated machines are configured with the new price every day,” said Kumar, who also owns a petrol station in the city.

The president informed that the city Jamshedpur assumes importance as it consumes 6,000 litres of petrol and 50,000 litres of diesel daily.

Alok Kumar, owner of Quality Petroleum at Circuit House Area, said that the move has foster a new beginning of automated fuel dispensing machines, where there is accuracy and ease of doing work.

“We have also deputed trained staff to daily check if new rates have been linked to the software. Every night at 8 PM we receive the new rates and we make sure that the change is made. The new system has in fact has increased vigil. Our supervisor is assigned for the task this has also ensure accuracy and extra vigil,”noted Kumar.
