Jamshedpur, September 14: The continuing rainfall across Jharkhand, including the Kolhan region, has changed the weather dynamics ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jamshedpur on September 15. The Prime Minister is scheduled to launch the Vande Bharat Express trains from Tatanagar Station and release the first instalment for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). However, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert, warning that bad weather could disrupt his roadshow and other events.
According to a bulletin from the Ranchi Meteorological Center, heavy rainfall is expected in East Singhbhum. Meteorologist Abhishek Anand explained that the weather disturbance is a result of a cyclonic circulation over the coast of Bangladesh, which has intensified into a deep depression. The system has been moving west-northwest at a speed of 23 km/h over the last six hours and was centred over Bangladesh and parts of Gangetic West Bengal as of 5:30 AM on September 14. It is expected to continue moving west-northwest, reaching Jharkhand by the evening of September 15 and affecting the region for the next 48 hours.
Several districts in Jharkhand have been placed on alert. On September 15, a red alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Latehar, Gumla, and Simdega. An orange alert has been declared for West Singhbhum, Chatra, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, and Dhanbad, while East Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Garhwa, and Palamu are under a yellow alert.
Further, on September 16, a yellow alert will remain in effect for Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega districts.
The potential for heavy rains could impact the Prime Minister’s program and roadshow, raising concerns about possible disruptions.
