Jamshedpur : After 10- days of anxious wait the residents of Adityapur have started receiving water supply.
The underground pipeline that had developed a major leakage beneath the under-constructed servicelane along Tata-Kandra Road was repaired, leading the department of drinking water and sanitation (DDW&S) to start supplying water from early morning.
Over one lakh people were effected as the drinking water supply stopped following a major leakage in one of the main underground pipeline beneath a service-lane along Tata-Kandra Road near Sher-e-Punjab Chowk in Adityapur since December 4 morning.
In order to ensure the completion of service lanes on either side of the four-lane, Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration had embarked on an eviction drive on Tata-Kandra Road in Adityapur.
Though the ambitious Rs 185.5 crores road project was supposed to be completed by April 20 this year, but the encroachment hurdle has caused the executing agency, Jharkhand Accelerated Road Development Company Limited (JARDCL) to miss the deadline.
The ambitious Tata-Kandra four-lane is being set up by Jharkhand Accelerated Road Development Company Limited (JARDCL) at the behest of the PWD (Road Construction).
When majority work of the project is complete, encroachment along the four-lane at some places in Gamharia and in major portion on Adityapur-Gamharia stretch has emerged as a stumbling block on the way of completing the service lane.
About 50,000 people live in Gamharia in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, and 10 percent of this population, which include school and college students have to negotiate through the existing Adityapur-Kandra road to reach either upto Adityapur industrial units or to the steel city.
Similarly, a large number of people living in Adityapur and Jamshedpur also have to go upto Gamharia for working in industrial units located along the Adityapur-Kandra road regularly.
Notably, over 2,000 heavy vehicles, including trailers, vans and other mode of vehicles every day-round-the-clock to Kandra-Tata four lane which is the artery of Adityapur industrial hub, linking to steel city of Jamshedpur on the one hand and NH-33 on the other hand through the Kandra-Chandil road.
