Jamshedpur, Dec. 2: The forthcoming state-wide water source cleanliness drive from December 13 to 20 has started getting comprehensive support from the people.
Gandhi Ashram, Civil Society, Indian Welfare Council, Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce, Marwari Yuva Manch, Jharkhand Truck Owners’ Association, Jharkhand Janshakti Majdoor Union, Builders’ Association, Indian Medical Association and others have announced their active participation.
State minister and chairman of Damodar Bachao Aandolan Saryu Rai said this during a meeting at his residence on Tuesday evening. He said, “When we started Damodar Bachao Aandolan in the year 2004 to make water sources pollution free, several people laughed at us saying ‘they roam here and there taking water samples, what will they do’.”
Now, after 10 years the situation is so terrible that everywhere people are talking about water conservation and river cleanliness.
Addressing the gathering, Rai said, “The main objective of water sources cleanliness drive is not to make people aware but to make the officers who are on the senior positions of the company and government departments.
Today everyone speaks of cleaning rivers, but rivers cleans itself during monsoon. We should pledge that from today we will not pollute the rivers.”
