Jamshedpur, Sep 13: Monday brought a little sigh of relief for the people residing in the low lying areas of the city, as sky remained clear in most parts of the city. However, experts opined that the rain God may play spoilsport due to depression.
Swarnarekha and Kharkhai rivers were flowing above their danger marks in this steel city on Sunday as incessant rains since Wednesday. The water levels of the two rivers were also pushed up. Today Kharkhai was flowing at 2.75 m below the danger level, while Swarnarekha was flowing at 3.86 against the danger level, official sources said.
Bagbera New Colony, Nirmal Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Jugsalai are much affected by the rains. “In both the rivers water level is on a receding mode but we need to be constantly vigil as the city is receiving heavy rains without interruption for the last few days,” said senior official at district flood control cell.

Meanwhile a local social worker said that the administration must ensure proper pre-planning to meet such a situation during Monsoon. He said that every year incidents of flash floods are reported in the city. Steps should be taken to fill the pots in several areas of Mango like Azad Nagar, Zakirangar and Old Purulia Road that lead to water clogging.
He further added that a delegation of the party would soon meet the deputy commissioner to register complaints. “Situation is still a nightmare for us. It is high time for the administration to take preventive measures before untoward incidents take place,” he said. He added that the Government must take initiative to prepare an action plan to meet the situation.
The administration had appealed to others living in low-lying areas to shift to safer places in view of the rising water levels of the two rivers. The water level of rivers Subarnarekha and Kharkai, swelled alarmingly yesterday due to releasing of water from Chandil and neighbouring Odisha’s dams, was receding fast today as rains stopped.
