CSIR-NML Jamshedpur conducts exposure training on metallic pipes for CIPET

Jamshedpur, Sep 13: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur organised Corporate Training Programme “Exposure Training on Metallic Pipes ” from 13-17 September, 2021. Ten Technical Officers from various CIPET establishments, like Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Bhopal, Jaipur, Vijaywada, Ranchi and Raipur, attended the training. The main objective of this training programme was to provide an exposure on various aspects of metallic alloys and other materials that are necessary to be inspected /examined/ evaluated frequently by ClPET centres for quality control and standardization. The training schedule included raw material beneficiation, primary and secondary processing of alloys, structural characterization, estimation of mechanical properties, techniques of non-destructive evaluation, mechanisms of component degradation in service, and residual life assessment.

The program started with welcome address by Dr.Indranil Chattoraj, Director, CSIR-NML on September 13. The proceeding of each day was divided into two segments; the first half contained different lectures on relevant technical areas by eminent scientists of CSIR- NML, followed by acclimatization to experimental practices in the second half using various experimental and instrumental facilities. The major thrust of the training was on quality judgment of as-received components, defined for different purposes, and safe-life evaluation to avoid catastrophic failures.

The training programme addressed various industrial problems frequently encountered at CIPET centres, and future collaboration between CIPET and CSIR-NML on areas of mutual interest.
