AJSU demands accountability from Tata Steel

Jamshedpur, May 2: A partially demolished wall of an old TISCO quarter in Burmamines collapsed on a youth, Mohammad Hidayat, seriously injuring him. The mishap took place while demolition work was underway in the Burmamines police station area.

According to eyewitnesses, Hidayat had entered the site during the demolition to collect bricks from the debris. While doing so, an unstable section of the wall suddenly gave way, trapping him underneath. Locals rushed to his aid and took him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH). After receiving initial treatment, his family shifted him to Steel City Hospital in Bistupur for further care.

The accident has raised concerns over the lack of proper safety arrangements at the demolition site. Residents have criticized the administration for its negligence and demanded that stringent safety protocols be enforced during such operations to prevent future mishaps.

In a press statement, AJSU district spokesperson Appu Tiwari questioned the circumstances surrounding the demolition. He claimed that prior warnings about unsafe demolition practices had gone unheeded. “Who authorized the demolition of these closed quarters? Who will take responsibility for this accident?” he asked.

Tiwari alleged that the involvement of certain police officials and political figures allowed the demolition work to resume despite earlier objections. He further demanded that Tata Steel be held accountable, asking, “If Mohammad Hidayat succumbs to his injuries, who will take the blame?”

AJSU has announced plans to meet senior party leaders and take strong action against Tata Steel if the responsible officials were not held accountable. Tiwari warned of protests against what he termed the company’s “deadly negligence.”
