Jamshedpur, Sept. 23 : People from different walks of life participated in �Walkathon� organised as part of World Heart Day celebration on Saturday by BrahmanandaNarayanaMultispeciality Hospital (BNMH). The participants included fitness enthusiasts, doctors, entrepreneurs, regular and differently abled athletes, students and health professionals across the steel city.
Well-known social worker Bailey Bodhanwala, traffic DSP Vivekanand Thakur,� reputed Indian archery coach PurnimaMahato, famous Mountaineer PremlataAgarwal and world boxing champion Aruna Mishra inaugurated the walkathon.
Commenting on this initiative, Dr.PerwaizAlam, Senior Cardiac Surgeon, said, “Hectic lifestyles, work-life imbalance leading to stress, and unhealthy dietary habits have contributed toincreased incidences of heart diseases, especially in the younger generation. It is high time one thinks about making the right choices for a healthy heart. Therefore, we encourage the citizens of Jamshedpur to take up walking and regular physical activities as a habitual practice”.
Government officials, sports persons, police personnel and NH staff also contributed to making the event a huge success. “Treating complex cardiovascular diseases are a major challenge and requires a hospital with a highly qualified team of experts and advanced techniques with critical care services. We have a team of experienced cardiac experts along with trained nurses and technicians to deal with any form of cardiac problems both in adults as well as children� said an official.
He added that walking is a simple yet miraculous therapy that can control risk factors such as high blood pressure, high sugar level, excess weight and stress, which in the long run could lead to heart disease. Walking and playing also improves blood circulation and cardio respiratory fitness.
