Jamshedpur: Sona Devi University held a voter awareness program in its auditorium today, aiming to educate students about the importance of voting and encourage a higher turnout in the upcoming elections. The program saw acting registrar Archana Singh lead students, faculty, and non-teaching staff in a solemn oath to participate actively in the democratic process.
Many students, thrilled by the event, shared their excitement about casting their vote for the first time. Singh informed them about alternative forms of identification accepted at polling stations besides the voter ID card, ensuring that every eligible student understands their rights and the process.
Beyond the oath-taking, students also engaged in a spirited debate on the topic “Casting Vote is Important,” with sixteen participants divided into four groups. The debate brought forth insightful perspectives on the significance of thoughtful voting, emphasizing that informed voting, rather than uninformed participation, strengthens democracy.
Several students pledged not only to vote themselves but also to encourage their families to exercise their voting rights. The awareness program underscored the essential role of voting in maintaining a healthy democracy, particularly as East Singhbhum and Jamshedpur region prepare to go to the polls on November 13.
