Vivek, Annu, Mehek among 30 enter semis of Jharkhand Junior Boxing Championship

Jamshedpur, Dec. 21: The 13th Junior Men and Women, Jharkhand State Boxing Championship 2019 began in Kerala Public School, Kadma premises on Friday, December 20. The championship is being organized with the support of Jharkhand Boxing Association, Jamshedpur.

On day one of the championship 24 men and 6 women entered the semi finals. A total of 30 bouts were conducted on Friday. In the women category Kerala Public School’s Annu Pandey and Mehek Kumari in the women category and Vivek Kumar Singh in men’s category entered the semi final. Other boxers who booked semi final spot from men’s category includes Rahul Kumar (Tata Boxing Centre), Nikhil Bhuiya (Urban Services), Bikash Sahis (East Singhbhum), Dheeraj Rawani (Dhanbad), Siddharth Tuty (West Singhbhum),  Nirmal Deogam (East Singhbhum), Shubham Kumar (Tata Boxing Centre), Vijay Anand (Urban Services), Ajay Vishwakarma (Tata Boxing Centre), Amarjeet Kumar Rawani (Dhanbad), Sunil Hembrom (West Singhbhum), Sumit Kumar Das (Urban Services), Avinash Raj (East Singhbhum), Md. Meraj (Tata Boxing Centre), Dheeraj Kumar (Dhanbad), Akash Kumar Singh (Tata Boxing Centre), Abhimanyu Kumar (Garhwa), Kartik Kumar (East Singhbhum), Suraj Kumar (Dhanbad), Vikram Kumar Yadav (Tata Boxing Centre), Md. Kaif Ali (East Singhbhum), Aman Kumar (Tata Boxing Centre) and Manjesh Pradhan (East Singhbhum).  From the women’s category Annu Pandey (Kerala Public School), Mehek Kumari (Kerala Public School), Tejas Kamti (Tata Boxing Centre), Babli Kumari (East Singhbhum), Anjali Murmu (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya), Laxmi Jamuda (Urban Services).

14 teams from East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Garhwa, Godda, Giridih,  Searikela-Kharsawan, Ramgarh, Koderma, Tata Boxing centre, Urban Services, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and Kerala Public School  participated. Of 150 total participants 100 boys and 50 girls participated. In total there are 84 rounds of bouts in the three days contest. The weight category for the Boxing Championship is: Men � 13 kgs and Women 8 kgs. The age group of the participants is 14 to 15 years.

Earlier, chief guest Suresh Dutt Tripathi, President, Jharkhand Boxing Association inaugurated the championship in presence of Director of Kerala Public Schools Sharat Chandran, the Academic Director Lakshmi Sharat, Principal Sharmila Mukherjee and the other dignitaries.

Chief Guest Suresh Dutt Tripathi addressed the participants and gathering with his encouraging words. Guest of Honour Uttam Singh, Secretary, Jharkhand Boxing Association motivated the boxers to inculcate sportsmanship spirit and sincerity.

Sharat Chandran welcomed the participants from all over Jharkhand and urged them to give their best and to compete in a great spirit. 

The most alluring performance of the evening was the dance performance of the students of Kerala Public School followed by the fascinating song. On this occasion balloons were unleashed symbolizing love, hope and unity.

The semi final round will be conducted on Saturday followed by final of the championship on Sunday.
