Kolkata, Jan 29 (IANS) A man has been arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a student of Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police said Thursday.
The victim, hailing from Odisha, Tuesday filed a police complaint alleging she was raped by the accused who also filmed the entire incident and used to blackmail her.
“On the basis of the complaint by a student of Kala Bhavan, we have arrested the accused. He was presented before a local court which sent him to police custody,” Bolpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer A.K. Ghosh told IANS.
He said the matter was being investigated and medical reports were awaited to ascertain if the victim was raped.
In December, a class 12 student of university Patha Bhavan School had alleged repeated rape and blackmail following which a Bangladeshi national was arrested.
In yet another incident, a first year fine arts student hailing from Sikkim quit the university after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by senior students who also filmed the act and used to blackmail her.
